🎤 Seven minutes, a spotlight, and a microphone 🎤
At the Financial Counsellors Australia National Conference in Perth, our very own Timmy Duggan took to the stage for "The Spot Talks." This inspiring seven-minute speech highlighted the impactful work of Hoops 4 Health in some of the most remote and vulnerable communities in the Southern Hemisphere. 📍 Key Points from the Talk: • Hoops 4 Health, a First Nations organization based in Darwin, has been serving communities in Northern, Central, and Western Australia for 23 years, with 19 of those years on a voluntary basis. • Despite making up just 3% of the Australian population, First Nations Australians constitute 30% of the adult prison population, and in the Northern Territory, they make up 85% of the prison population. • Since 2016, Hoops 4 Health has conducted over 800 sessions in the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in Darwin, focusing on building relationships and resilience. • In collaboration with Financial Counsellors Australia, Anglicare Care and Lutheran Care and Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, Hoops for Wealth was formed, combining financial counselling with healing-centred sport to support young people in detention. • One of the program's successes includes mentoring an inmate who has now become a full-time worker for Hoops 4 Health. 💡 Our Vision: We're dedicated to providing First Nations solutions to 21st-century problems, building hope and resilience in our communities. However, as the funding for Hoops 4 Wealth comes to an end in 2024, we are seeking more champions to support and mentor others, spreading the powerful message of our model. ✨ A Story of Impact: Timmy shared a poignant story of how the presence of our "yellow shirt mob" deterred an inmate from breaking into a house, showing the profound influence and respect our program has garnered. Join us in our mission to bring hope and resilience to the most vulnerable communities. Your support can make a world of difference. 🙌 #Hoops4Health #FirstNations #FinancialCounselling #BuildingResilience #CommunitySupport #SpotTalks #PerthConference #Inspiration #YouthEmpowerment #EndIncarceration

Alice Springs Prison Impact - Hoops 4 Wealth
Having a full-time Hoops 4 Health worker inside Alice Springs Prison has been transformative for both inmates and the broader community. Through consistent engagement, the program fosters emotional regulation, resilience, and self-worth, offering tailored mentoring and sport-based activities that support rehabilitation. This dedicated presence helps inmates build life skills, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and access pathways to employment. By working closely with Corrections NT and community partners, the program has successfully transitioned former inmates into meaningful roles within Hoops 4 Health, demonstrating the power of sport and mentorship in breaking the cycle of recidivism.

Hoops 4 Health on Country Tour April 2022
Hoops 4 Health conducted several amazing programs across the Northern Territory over the April 2022 school holidays. We thank the Roper Gulf Shire Council, Kalano Community Association Inc and the Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation in Lajamanu. The footage is predominantly from Borroloola and Kalano Communities. Whilst on tour we promoted the Australian Electoral Commission's importance of voting and importance of getting on the electoral roll in remote communities.
